Welcome to my blog! I hope you enjoy the journey we are about to go on. My name is JD Kammes and I named this blog The Fancy Savage because this idea suits me so well. I am certainly a #fancysavage. What do I mean by that? The Fancy Savage is about understanding that there is a time to be savage and a time to be fancy. Neither one is better or worse than the other, or good or bad. They are both good; it’s all about knowing and deciding when to be savage and when to be fancy. The fancy savage is really a spectrum that I will be exploring through food, my favorite subject.
I love to eat; therefore, I love to cook. As a savage, love eating a whole roasted chicken with my bare hands in a T-shirt and jeans. However, I also enjoy getting fancy and putting on my three-piece suit, pocket watch, and fedora for an exquisitely prepared meal at a restaurant with white linen tablecloths.
Being a #fancysavage is about understanding each of those meals and situations and being prepared and comfortable in either. It is a state of mind. If you are knowledgeable, prepared, and comfortable in situations at either end of the Fancy Savage spectrum, from eating meat outside with your bare hands to nonchalantly handling silverware changes at a Michelin 4 Star restaurant, then you can handle anything in between.
On this journey, we will explore the entire fancy savage spectrum. I see this as a conversation among friends and I look forward to hearing your point of view and answering any questions you have.
