I love telling people I’m going to the CIA! They look at me a little strangely because anyone that knows me would not be surprised if I suddenly told them I was going to be a spy. However, this CIA is the Culinary Institute of America, which is also no surprise because I love to cook. I will be attending the Greystone campus in California.
The CIA has a well-earned reputation as the best culinary school in the country and so I figured that if I am changing my entire life I should go to the best culinary school in the country. I have always loved cooking and want to be in the food industry, I want to learn more about all kind of food and cooking.
So how did I get to this point? In June of 2017 I started my own personal chef business on the side while working at the First Division Museum (FDM for short) I cooked for a few clients and even did a wedding. I was really enjoying it and my love, Renada said, “why don’t you go to culinary school, don’t you have some GI Bill left?” This was just the gentle push I needed, because in the back of my mind I have always thought it would be very cool to attend the CIA, but figured it would never really happen. I checked on my GI Bill and found out that I did have enough benefits left to cover the CIA! Now that I could attend the question became why wouldn’t I.
Why wouldn’t I, was actually a pretty difficult question. I worked at the First Division Museum for seven years and really enjoyed my job. I was the Director of Programming and Education and did lots of different and interesting programs and projects. I got to meet new and interesting people, but no killing. (since you might be new to this blog and might not know me, let me just say I joke around a lot, not always appropriately. Also, I love a good movie reference, I apologize for any offense and in future those responsible will be sacked.) It was without a doubt the best job I have ever had as a civilian. I will miss my job and most especially the people I worked with. I had an amazing team and amazing colleagues. I want to say to everyone I worked with that this is not good bye, only until next time.
So, a quick word of wisdom whenever you leave someplace you should leave them all with cookies which is what I did. Everyone likes cookies!
Today I am leaving for my new adventure. The car is all packed up and my love is coming with me for the road trip from Wheaton, Illinois to St. Helena, California. I will send you updates from the road so check back and follow my social media. Where this journey will ultimately take me, I do not know but I am looking forward to the adventure.
